About Society for Enhanced Education in Computational Sciences (SEECS)
The Full Story
In our day-to-day life, we are governed by different laws of nature which are fundamentally absolute. Since the dawn of human civilization on the Earth, humankind has tried to understand these laws of nature in one way or the other. These laws of nature are best described by mathematical equations in sciences and engineering, and solutions to these mathematical equations are necessary for both innovation and improvements in modern engineering and science applications. However, most of the times it is impossible to obtain solutions to these mathematical formulations by hand, and hence, an alternative yet reliable way is sought after. Even, if a manual solution is possible, it is always impossible to solve these formulations for any industrial and large-scale applications. Since, the advent of the computers, they have been continuously used to solve the un-solvable equations, and also the manually solvable equations on large scales. This gave rise to the field of computational sciences. We call it, “The Computer’s way of Solving Equations”.
Today, the scope of computational sciences ranges from predictions of the economy of countries to weather forecasting, from designing of efficient and safe airplanes to ships, rocket engines to nuclear reactors, the modern drainage system of cities to dams, green buildings to fire-safe parking lots, from innovations in the methods of drug delivery to various human systems to the designing of the next-gen artificial body parts for human structure, and the list goes on. Although having such intense involvement in our sciences and engineering applications, yet computational sciences, by and large, remain somewhat under-appreciated by the students of sciences & engineering. The reasons are many, but they certainly require attention.
To address this problem, we as a team of young Ph.Ds. have created a society for the Enhanced Learning in Computational Sciences (SEECS), which has a prime aim of motivating students and increasing awareness among them, especially at the undergrad level, about the role and scope of computational sciences. We aim to achieve this goal by publishing regular, easy to comprehend, and lucid blogs, giving seminars and workshops to students in schools, and in universities at the undergrad level. We believe that applications of computational sciences are very diverse, and they make our life easier, either by solving multi-dimensional equations or solving simple problems for large scale applications.
If you’re a high school student, undergrad students or even a grad student, we have something for everyone! As they say, “computational sciences can be everybody’s cup of tea”. Well, if nobody has said it till now, we’re saying it, and we mean it as well!
